‘Eye’ Can/’t See You.

Now as all of you know, hopefully, is that we call have different eye colours.

Eye color is the result of variations in the amount of melanin, a pigment found in the front part of the iris of the eye. The lack of this pigment results in blue eyes, some pigment gives green and lots of pigment gives brown eyes. So light brown eyes just have a bit less melanin than darker brown eyes.

So in easier form, the less pigment you have the more chance you have of having blue or green eyes, but the more pigment you have you’re likely to have brown eyes.

I myself personally have brown eyes, but I have always wanted to have blue eyes as I thought it looked more beautiful and calming, but as I’ve grown older I have gotten to the use of having brown eyes and I believe brown/blue/green- and any other eye colours you can get- are all equally beautiful, they represent who you are.

Why are babies born with blue eyes?

When we are all born, we are born with blue eyes, rarely babies can be born with brown eyes straight away. It usually falls down on inheritance. You inherit your eye color from your parents, but no matter what the color is now, it may have been blue when you were born. Why? Melanin, the brown pigment molecule that colors your skin, hair, and eyes, hadn’t been fully deposited in the irises of your eyes or darkened by exposure to ultraviolet light. The iris is the colored part of the eye that controls the amount of light that is allowed to enter.

At a further date, this baby could eventually gain more pigments which would change the blue eye colour to brown, it just all depends on inheritance and/or the amount of pigments you have.

How can the blind see?

Blind people use a variety of different methods to acknowledge their surroundings, of course it all depends on how blind they are, some are able to have specific glasses made for them to see, others could have laser eye surgery to help them see better. However it doesn’t always ‘cure’ it. With glasses you could either wear them or have contact lenses, but they could either get lost or broken, implying you’ll have to get new ones. With laser eye surgery, it’s a miracle how they can treat the blindness however rarely, it can have some side effects, once the changes have been made to the cornea it cannot be reversed. I will not go into great detail about the possible side effects and disadvantages as I do not want to scare off those wishing to have surgery.
The blind could also use a form of ‘language’ Braille is a tactical writing system used by the blind and the visually impaired. It is usually writing on embossed paper.

Braille is named after its creator, Frenchman Louis Braille, who lost his eyesight due to a childhood accident. In 1824, at the age of 15, Braille developed his code for the French alphabet as an improvement on night writing.

Also, Braille characters are small rectangular blocks called cells that contain tiny palpable bumps called raised dots. The number and arrangement of these dots distinguish one character from another. Since the various braille alphabets originated as transcription codes of printed writing systems, the mappings (sets of character designations) vary from language to language.

However, Braille cells are not the only thing to appear in braille text. There may be embossed illustrations and graphs, with the lines either solid or made of series of dots, arrows, bullets that are larger than braille dots, ect.

An example of Braille.

Another way to help the blind would be to use the White Stick, this allows the blind owner to hold the stick which contains a ball at the other end which would roll around feeling the texture telling them what ground they would be walking upon, also it would be used to detect any higher or lower ground allowing them to take a step so they won’t get hurt.

Another way would be having guide dogs, these dogs would be specificity trained in a certain way to help their blind owner.

Guide dogs would need to learn

  • To walk in a straight line in the centre of the pavement unless there is an obstacle;
  • Not to turn corners unless told to do so;
  • To stop at kerbs and wait for the command to cross the road, or to turn left or right;
  • To judge height and width so that its owner does not bump their head or shoulder;
  • How to deal with traffic.

Guide dogs in training wear brown training harnesses – they don’t get a smart white one until they complete their schooling.

The training is rigorous – it has to be – and not all the young dogs make the grade. For the majority that do, the introduction to their new owner marks the start of a partnership that will last around seven years. Half the dogs now being trained will go to replace dogs that have retired.

Matching the correct dog with the correct owner takes skill and experience. The owner’s length of stride, height and lifestyle all contribute to the type of guide dog they will be matched with. The couple spends up to four weeks of intensive training together until they qualify together and the visually-impaired owner proudly hands over a token 50p for their dog and the guide dog is awarded a white harness.
Guide dogs are indeed a blind mans best friend.

Extreme measures.

Okay. Now we’ve all heard of tattoos on arms, legs, chest and even personal areas, you could even tattoo your eyes. Yes, you have heard me right, eyes, tattooed.

Now only crazy extreme people would risk having their eyes be inked and become blind for the rest of their lives.

There are many features to having tattooed eyes, such as shapes inserted into the whites, coloured sclera (whites of the eye) and many more.

That looks painful, Hopefully you are just as sensable as me, you couldn’t have tattooed eyes having the risk of blindness for the rest of your life, but that is your own opinion.

Why do some animals have different shaped pupils?

Human eyes have circular pupils, but a great many animals have pupils that are oval or slit-shaped.

The explanation usually given for the use of a slit pupil is that it can exclude light more effectively than a circular pupil, and so slit pupils tend to be found in the eyes of animals with a crepuscular or nocturnal lifestyle that need to protect their eyes during daylight.

Spherical:  type of pupil would be seen in the human species as well as primates, and canines. This type of pupil adapts well to the intensity of light during the day, although it isn’t necessarily useful for nighttime outings.

Vertical slit: Cats,many species of snakes, alligators and crocodiles possess these eyes. Although these types of pupils are a useful adaptation for nocturnal animals, the animals who use them are both active day AND night. Because of their exposure to daytime lights, this pupil allows protection of the retina in daylight glare.

Last but not least- rectangular: Sheep, Goats, Octopuses and Toads have these rectangular shaped pupils. Typically classified as prey, these animals need to have a defense both day and night. But they don’t have vertical slits due to their need to survey their surroundings more accurately. The narrower the pupil in relation to the horizon, the greater the accuracy of depth perception is in the peripheral vision of the animal. The perception of depth must be considered with these animals who spend their time evading predators in a rugged terrain.

Thankyou for taking your time on reading my post based on eyes.

Start a new.

So I’ve never done a post let alone a blog so this is very new and strange for me, but I have always wanted to do something like this as I would like to start a new passion towards writing my personal blogs.

I have many things to talk about but I won’t talk about them yet as this is just an introduction.

I have many hobbies such as reading, writing and enjoying horse riding.

My name is also Leah if you haven’t already guessed by my user name. I am also deaf which I will go into detail in another post.

I am currently under progress of creating my own book that I have been creating just well over a year now. So far I have over 500 reads on it and I’m so proud of myself! My book is online and not yet to be completed, I am currently at a writers block and unsure of what scene to create next. The link to it I will include down at the bottom of this page.

Me being me I can be a very strange person to whether I am meeting new people or being around my family or friends. At times I can be socially awkward and not talk and hide to avoid talking to those who I do not know, so to avoid that I would read a book in my room or in my play room, which tends to do the job. Other times I can be very loud and cheerful around those who I do know, usually friends. I can be quite rude and sarcastic at times but as my friends know me too well they don’t take it the wrong way. (Hopefully!)

Okay that’s all I have to say for now as it’s just a little introduction but yeah I don’t really know what else to say now for the time being aha.
